More info about “Mail exchange (MX) sanity”
MX records tell sending servers where to deliver your email. RFC 5321 §5.1 accepts either an IPv4 address (A) or an IPv6 address (AAAA), and allows equal priority numbers to share the load. Without MX records, senders try the domain’s own A or AAAA addresses instead; this is called implicit MX. A null MX (RFC 7505 §3) explicitly says the domain receives no email. An address alone does not prove a server accepts mail.

MX points at a server name
The displayed MX targets point directly at server names.
More info about “MX points at a server name”
The mail standards say an MX must point straight at a server name, not at an alias (CNAME) or an IP address. Most senders cope, some do not, and mail to you is lost there.

Displayed mail server addresses have reverse DNS
The checked public addresses have reverse names that point back.
More info about “Displayed mail server addresses have reverse DNS”
Mail servers are expected to have a reverse name (PTR) that points back to the same address. Receivers use it as a basic identity check; servers without it are more often treated as spam sources.
